Unable to Initialize wGT3X+ and Newer Revision GT3X+ Devices With Firmware 1.0.0

There is a bug in ActiLife 6.8.0 that prevents users from performing this procedure. This will be addressed in ActiLife 6.8.1. If you have CLE, MRA2, or MRA3 devices that have firmware revisions of LESS than 1.2.7, you will need to downgrade to ActiLife 6.7.3. You can find the installer for this here:

With the release of ActiLife 6.5.x, the firmware file format was changed to allow for additional functionality with the latest revisions of GT3X+, ActiSleep+, wGT3X+, and wActiSleep+ devices. However, because of this change, ActiLife can no longer automatically update from much earlier revisions of firmware. You are also not able to manually update from these versions to the latest release. ActiLife automatically tries to update the firmware to newer version when you initialize the device, and because this older firmware is unable to be automatically updated, ActiLife will get caught in an Update Loop and never complete the initialization.

To resolve this issue, users simply need to update to an intermediate build, and then from there, you will be able to update the firmware to the current releases. This ONLY affects devices with serial numbers that begin with CLE, MRA2, and MRA3 that have Firmware Revision 1.0.0, and if you are using ActiLife 6.4.5 or earlier. You must have ActiLife 6.5.1 or greater installed to perform this procedure; Devices with these serial numbers are not compatible with earlier versions of ActiLife. It does not affect any other devices.

To perform this procedure, first download and save the "Cletus 01.02.07.afw" firmware to your computer. You can find this firmware file at the end of this article. Make sure that you have installed at least ActiLife 6.5.1 or greater as detailed in this FAQ Article. Once ActiLife is installed, connect your device to your computer via it's USB connection. It is recommend that you connect directly to the computer and bypass any USB hubs that you might have been using. Once the device is visible in the grid, click on Communication, then Advanced, then Update Firmware From File:

For ActiLife 6.6.4 and earlier: Connect your devices and open ActiLife. Make sure that the box next to the device is checked (indicating that it is selected) and then click on Communications, then Advanced, then Update Firmware from File: 



For ActiLife 6.7.0 and greater: Connect your devices and open ActiLife. Make sure that the box next to the device is checked (indicating that it is selected) and then click on Advanced, then Update Firmware:



You will then see a browse dialog box. Simply browse to the location where you saved the attached firmware file and double-click on it to begin the update process. You will then see a series of Status updates in the devices grid; "Updating" and then "Finished Update". The device will then disappear from the grid and should reappear after a few seconds. You will notice that the Status now says "Finished Updating" and the firmware on the device is now 1.2.7.




You should now be able to initialize your device and the firmware will automatically update to the latest release with no further intervention required. To verify this, simply initialize the device and if all goes as expected, when the device reappears in the grid, you will see that the firmware has once again updated, only now, it will be the most recent release (2.0.0 in this instance).
