Note: this guide ONLY applies to GT3X+ and ActiSleep+ accelerometers that have serial numbers beginning with NEO or MRA1 and have firmware version 2.5.0 or lower installed. For issues with our legacy devices (GT1M, GT3X, ActiTrainers, etc), please email ActiGraph Technical Support for assistance. For all other devices, please contact ActiGraph Technical Support for assistance with recovering your data.
Occasionally, GT3X+ and ActiSleep+ accelerometers may experience an issue that prevents ActiLife from downloading the data that was collected. This may be the result of an improper firmware update or some other issue with the file system on the device. To fix these issues, you can use the Formatting Tool to repair the file system but doing so destroys any data on the device. This tutorial will steps you through the process of recovering the data from your device before reformatting it.
First, please close ActiLife and then download and install the latest version of the GT3X+ Data Recovery Wizard by downloading the installer attached to this article. Once you have installed the Recovery Wizard, you can launch it by double-clicking on the newly created icon on your desktop.
The first screen asks you to connect any device(s) that you wish to recover data from as shown below. Once the tool detects devices connected to the computer, the Next Button will become enabled. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will only have a single device connected:
On the next screen, you will be able to select which GT3X+ devices you wish to recover. (If you have other GT3X+ devices attached that you don't wish to recover from, this gives you the option to ignore those.) Simply click each device in the list you wish to recover. To deselect a device, click it again. All selected devices will be highlight in blue. Click Next to proceed.
On the next screen, you will be given the option to change where you would like the recovered file to be saved to. The software will take each device's data and will save it to the location you specify. If you would like to change the location, click the "Change" button and select a different folder. Once ready, click the "Commit" button to begin the recovery process. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will save our Data to a folder on the C:\ drive named "MyRecoveredData" as shown.
The next screen will appear with a progress indicator for your devices. Once each device is finished, the "Finish" button will enable, closing the wizard. Be sure to check the data downloaded at the location you specified above!
